About Us

Our History:

Alabama Lawyers For Unborn Children, Inc. was incorporated in Jefferson County as an Alabama nonprofit corporation on May 28, 1987 by Tom Maxwell, incorporator.

Seeing physicians organized at pro-life rallies inspired the incorporation of ALAW-Life as a vehicle for members of the Alabama Bar to present the truth about abortion to the citizens of Alabama.

Michael F. Terry, Linda Perry, and Tom Maxwell were the first members, elected officers, and directors beginning three-year terms in 1988.  Five early members mailed written notice of existence of ALAW-Life to every lawyer listed in the 1987 Alabama Bar Directory resulting in a founding membership of fewer than 100 bar members.

Each year directors send notices to new bar admittees. In the early 1990’s Ellen Turner of Mobile established an associates program at the UA Law School, and another associates program was also begun at Cumberland School of Law. In 1998 Jones Law School was also contacted for associates.

The deans of Birmingham School of Law, Cumberland School of Law, University of Alabama Law School, Jones School of Law, and Miles Law School were contacted in 2009 regarding ALAW-Life. This associate project leads to new full members once they graduate and pass the Bar.

Alabama Lawyers for Life now has an enrollment of over 300 members.
